Our guest speakers include:
Speaker 1
Catherine Langstreth -Bolton College- Head of English, Maths and Digital
Title: 鈥楨verything FE- New Challenges for the Further Education Landscape鈥
The Further Education (FE) Sector is facing unprecedented new challenges in an everchanging Landscape in the forthcoming academic year. This presentation will give a summary of current FE courses and qualifications and how these are changing. It will discuss FE college links to employers and the ongoing importance of English and maths as key skills, coupled with the ongoing challenge of recruiting well-qualified teachers.
Speaker 2
Professor Moira Hulme, Professor of Education, International Centre for Educational Enhancement (ICEE)
Title: 鈥楪eographies of Exclusion鈥
The goal of equity in education in England is damaged by regional disparities in outcomes and a marked social gradient in school exclusion. The most vulnerable young people are disproportionately represented in in-year transfers between settings. This presentation explores strategies to reduce high rates of pupil mobility in a socioeconomically deprived Northern town. The analysis highlights the interaction of administrative, professional and market logic, and the significance of the 鈥榤iddle tier鈥 in mediating inter-local tensions. Further research is needed on 鈥榟idden鈥 pupil moves and diverse forms of within-school segregation-reintegration.
Speaker 3
Kevin Holland- Director of Networks- International Centre for Educational Enhancement (ICEE)
Title: 鈥楿nleashing Greatness鈥 鈥 Appreciative processes and language.
Many of the challenges faced by the educational system are out of individual schools and school leaders鈥 hands to change. Within the culture and ethos of a school, there is always an opportunity to reflect, revisit and make a change. The weight of accountability is an unwanted pressure. Finding structures, processes, and strategies to relieve some of them, and to focus on a purposeful, clear, and morally driven whole school improvement journey is truly empowering. The International Centre for Educational Enhancement at the UoB has its focus here, across an international network of 130 schools. This presentation will discuss the processes, language, and philosophy behind this inside-out model of school improvement 鈥 鈥楿nleashing Greatness鈥.
