I chose this course as I had been working in the Civil team at for 4 years prior and I wanted to become a qualified civil engineer on a course that was accredited by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE). By choosing the apprenticeship route, I was able to gain my degree but also work towards my Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status with the ICE at the same time.

I thoroughly enjoyed the site surveying module as we went outside and used the total stations and dumpy levels. Using the equipment outside made it much easier to understand [its] purpose as we could physically use it and see what it did.

I feel that by applying my newly attained professional knowledge and skills, I have a different style of management and believe that I am a more effective leader.

Embodying the values of CMI has allowed me to demonstrate integrity and effective leadership skills. I have also developed in confidence, resilience and I鈥檓 much more agile, resulting in being more creative and innovative within my role.

The facilities are fantastic, with up-to-date laboratories creating an engaging environment, conducive to learning.

Teaching staff deliver interesting lectures, backed up with 'real life' anecdotal evidence.

My time on placement so far has been great! We鈥檝e completed different tasks such as: engaging with other agencies, running our own groups, meeting service users on campus and experiencing supervision. I have learnt a lot up until now and only just realised how many phone calls or emails social workers must make to chase something up. It also helps massively with our tutors on campus offering us support when needed. I鈥檓 looking forward to tackling new challenges and roles on placement andbuild on my experience.

Undertaking the apprenticeship degree has enabled me to develop both personally and professionally. Engaging and sharing experience with colleagues on the course has enabled me to take a different view on similar scenarios within my own role, enabling me to be more dynamic in how I approach problems. The work life balance is tough, and that shouldn鈥檛 be underestimated, but the rewards are well worth it. One of the most valuable aspects is mixing with people from all sectors and industries. The challenges we see have breadth and depth, and how we approach them is so varied!
