Wendy graduated with a Masters in Research: Criminology and Socio-legal Studies from The University of Manchester. She holds a Professional Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE), and has awards for supporting students and published academic research, in the areas of safeguarding, relating to interpersonal violence causation, risk and recidivism. Furthermore, she currently holds a certificate to practice with perpetrators of domestic violence. Her passion is entrenched in the principles of safeguarding, and has done so for more than 30 years. Moreover, academic and professional practice continues to support her work with criminal justice agencies in the UK and the USA.
In support of her academic work, Wendy continues to collaborate with criminal justice agencies, as a criminal justice lecturer, multi-agency violence prevention practitioner (VPP) and researcher. By doing so, her work is current and meaningful when employed to support theoretical approaches within lectures and seminars. Challenges in professional practice have given rise to adopting a nested ecological approach in violence prevention programmes, whereby practitioners are now able to address the issue of equality. For example, in same-sex relationships, female perpetrators, family violence and situational violence/conflict. The above criminal justice work challenges her doctoral work, which has evolved, and influenced current national multi-agency knowledge and professional practice in terms of violence prevention and measurement of risk.
Wendy has research interests that centre on criminological safeguarding principles in the following areas: interpersonal violence causation, risk assessment and recidivism, which includes situational and wellbeing concepts encountered by society, in addition to personal implications and impact on criminal justice professionals. Additionally, offending behaviour involving human trafficking, sexual exploitation, modern-day slavery, forced marriage and related issues are also areas of interest in Wendy's work.
