Following undertaking competitive sport, namely within athletics and semi-professional football, I have had a wide educational background which has led to the development of my knowledge, skills and professionalism in teaching, management and coaching. I have successfully secured a BSc (Hons) degree in Sports Science, Leisure and Coaching (MMU) and a PGCE in Post Compulsory Education and Training (Edge Hill) and recently achieved Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy. I am currently undertaking an MSc in Strength and Conditioning with my dissertation focusing on whole-body dynamic balance and stability training.
Professionally, I have been fortunate to work across sports science, education and professional football coaching capacities at Bury, Bolton, Manchester Utd, Manchester City, Oldham Athletic and currently with Blackburn Rovers Academy. Having spent five years in similar roles in the US, I continue to be very much involved in the coaching and sports science industries alongside my current roles. This includes my specific athlete development and personal training business, whereby I am able to tailor specific periodisation programmes for current semi-pro and professional athletes. Having recently completed the UEFA A Licence, I intend to continue research into the areas of biomarkers in tracking performance and recovery in athletes and also sports-specific functional and maximum strength training adaptations.
I also found the investigation into the 'relationship between strength, sprint and jump performance in well-trained youth soccer players', an excellent insight to the appreciation of potential principles and variables to enhance athlete productivity. Amongst my immediate roles of delivery around anatomy and physiology, I am able to comfortably transfer and apply theory to practice across the department and intend to support students progressing across sports rehabilitation, sports science and sports coaching.
