Oliver鈥檚 previous degrees, including a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry (2:1) and a Master of Science degree in Bioscience (Distinction), have provided him with in-depth knowledge and understanding of human anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, microbiology, virology, pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics, all of which bear relevance to the nursing profession.
Oliver holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Adult Nursing from The University of York, for which he completed placements in general practice, acute medicine, residential care, trauma and orthopaedics and emergency medicine. Oliver achieved the highest mark in his cohort for this qualification, receiving the University鈥檚 鈥極utstanding Academic Achievement Prize鈥.
Oliver has a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher and Professional Education (with Advance HE鈥檚 Fellow of the Higher Education Academy), which has enabled him to critically reflect on the strategies, theories and approaches that inform the creation of effective, dynamic and diverse learning environments, as well as the skills, attributes and characteristics that help teachers engage effectively with learners. This qualification has provided Oliver with a greater understanding of curriculum design, planning and delivery, professional enquiry and action research, and through active engagement with Advance HE鈥檚 Professional Standards Framework has enabled Oliver to explore and embed contemporary evidence-based approaches to teaching and supporting learning.
Oliver鈥檚 time spent working as a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department has provided him with a wealth of knowledge and experience in A to E assessment and the recognition and management of the acutely ill adult patient, enabling him to achieve Advanced Life Support certification. Oliver continues to work regular shifts in the Emergency Department.
