Study with an Off-Campus Partner
Carolyn is currently job-sharing the programme leader role for the BA (Hons) Social Work. She teaches across the MA and BA programmes in areas including Social Work Law, Practice Learning, Social Perspectives in Mental Health. She is a supervisor for the Social Work Centre and supervises Masters students with their dissertations.
Carolyn is a link tutor for practice placements and works with our local partners to promote and develop student placements. She supports our service users and carer team with their input on the BA and MA programmes.
Carolyn completed her PG Certificate in Teaching & Learning in Higher Education at Manchester Metropolitan University whilst teaching on their social work programmes as a Teaching Consultant in 2020-2021. She have been a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy since 2021.
Professional Background
Carolyn has worked in statutory social work teams since 2005, qualifying with an MSc Social Work in 2008 via a work based training scheme. The majority of her career has been in Local Authority /NHS mental health services in Central London and Greater Manchester. Carolyn's roles have included Best Interests Assessor, Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP), Practice Educator, Team Manager, Advanced Social Work Practitioner and Adult Safeguarding Chair until joining the university in 2021.
Carolyn still works as an AMHP for an Emergency Duty Team and is currently the Chair of the Greater Manchester British Association of Social Workers (BASW) branch, a role which focuses on knowledge exchange amongst the local social work community.
Research Interests
Areas of interest include anti-oppressive safeguarding; suicide prevention with mental health service users and students; and the well being of social workers within organisations.
