Andrew qualified as an Adult Nurse in 1996 at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield. His clinical nursing experience extends to a total of 25 years working across specialities in cardiothoracic surgery, coronary care, cardiology, ICU, and care of the elderly, up to ward manager level in the Leeds and Wakefield Hospitals. He also worked in clinical education for 6 years as the Clinical Educator in Emergency Care and Acute Medicine at Airedale Hospital and spent time working in the national education sector as practice educator for NHS Education for Scotland in the Scottish Highlands, based in Fort William.

Andrew was involved in supporting students very early in his career and in 2009 he won the Higher Education Academy鈥檚 Practice Educator Award. He also has a keen interest in international travel and has worked in a voluntary capacity in Nepal (2010) and in Mongolia (2011-12). In Mongolia, his most notable achievement was that he wrote and delivered the first ever teaching and assessing methodology course for nurse teachers in Mongolia.

On return to the UK Andrew continued his professional development in education and qualified as a Nurse Teacher in 2017 with a Master鈥檚 Degree in Health Professional Education at the University of Huddersfield. He鈥檚 passionate about promoting the highest standards of nursing care through education and supporting students to achieve their goals and reach their potential. He is also interested in assessment feedback and feedforward, clinical simulation and spatial cognition theory to assist learners navigating their courses. Andrew is a keen cyclist, runner, mountain climber and a proud supporter of Leeds United FC.
