High-quality palliative and end-of-life care (EoLC) requires a pro-active, compassionate approach driven by research-based best practice and continually strives to ensure person-centred, individualised care. This course is ideal for health or allied health and social care professionals involved in caring for individuals with life-limiting illnesses and end-of-life care and is not limited to individuals working in the hospice setting.

We offer a systematic understanding and critical awareness of current problems and new insights in this field. We'll support you in developing the theoretical knowledge and reflective abilities required so that you can deliver high-quality physical, social, spiritual and psychological care to those nearing the end of life and their families.

We offer a wide range of full-time courses in lots of different subjects, many of our courses start in September and January. If you would like to see what courses are available please visit our Course Search.

Teaching & Assessment

This programme adopts a blended learning and teaching style, including online delivery and engagement where appropriate. We'll expect you to attend six study days and engage in blended learning using resources provided on the University's virtual learning environment, Moodle2.

Formal lectures will be delivered by the programme team and specialists in palliative and end-of-life care. We'll encourage you to participate in group work, debate the differing ideas, concepts and theories and reflect on their application to practice. In addition, we'll offer scheduled tutorial support where you can meet with the module tutor to discuss aspects of your studies and receive personalised feedback and guidance. E-learning via Moodle2 allows you to undertake further study at a place and time convenient to you.

Assessment is through a 20-minute presentation and a 20-minute viva.
